BIRHC AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT HOSTED HEALTH FAIR AT BICS

by Brittney Rittof

The Beaver Island Rural Health Center recently collaborated with the Health Department of Northwest Michigan and Charlevoix County Community Foundation to host a health fair inside the Beaver Island school gym. Both students and community members were welcomed to stop by and collect informative healthcare materials.
Between 11am and 2pm, BICS students collected a variety of sensory-soothing items, such as textured silicone worry stones, LifeSavers Mints, texted or scented stickers, and more. They also received outdoor materials like a water bottle, silicone frisbees, and small blow-up beach balls.
There was one table that was catered towards adults, parents, and teachers. They offered gratitude journals, sound machines, tea samples, room sprays, and informative packets covering a variety of information about physical and mental health, as well as child health resources.
